Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of disseminating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A persistent unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the first lady's gender.
Their lawsuit states that Owens disregarded substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she taught at his lycée.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
