Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland found themselves without power on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms passed over the state, bringing wind gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Substantial Hailstones and Broad Damage

Homeowners witnessed giant hailstones reaching sizes of seven centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that various areas across the state had been impacted by significant hail.

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of Queensland's east this week as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

The following day was expected to become the most rainy day, with continued severe weather risk expected across various areas of both states.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after past events where comparable situations led to major medical consequences in the area.
